For commissioned work I will send a briefing form for you to fill in and I will then provide an estimate of the cost.

Once I have accepted the commission and the budget is agreed, I like to start all projects with a wee phone call so that I can gather all of the little details and get to know you better!

All my work starts with a rough sketch. I prefer to do this in a sketchbook in plain old pencil. This is the stage where I can experiment loosely with different ideas and create a few thumbnail drawings that will be used for the final illustration or sometimes, I take bits and pieces from each of the thumbnails.

If you are commissioning artwork I will send over roughs for you to review. This is when you would choose your preferred route and ask for any changes. Making amends to the artwork at this stage is free of charge.

Once the roughs have been finalised, I will then start to take the thumbnail sketch and refine it to create a black and white illustration of just the outline.

For commissions I offer three rounds of amends at this stage. Any further changes beyond this will incur an additional fee.

This is the fun part! We will discuss the colour palette and I will send over some colour roughs for you to review before we commit to the final colours.

Once you are happy with the chosen colours, I will start creating the finished illustration!

I will send a final proof of the artwork for you to sign-off that you are happy with it. When I have received approval to proceed to output, the final files in the agreed format will be provided.
